Heads Down

Chickadees are amazing. Almost fearless, they chortle and squeak in their constant search for food, often within a hairbreadth of danger. They seem to be masters of their domain; small yet mighty.

I had wanted to sculpt Chickadee for quite a while, even had a request. The form came as I had one stop close and work on a small sunflower. The bird was upside down, tugging at a seed. This position was the key to the composition. The addition of a curved post top made the structure work allowing for an over hang and a sense of strength throughout the understory of the piece.
