Sunbound

  1. pic of bird in bronze

In preparing this work there were two major considerations. First, I wanted the piece small enough to be placed almost anywhere: mantle, shelf, or table. Second, I wanted a smoothly flowing work with simple form, little or no exaggeration or gesture, yet interesting in its composition. To create enough lighted and shaded areas I resorted to one of my favorite devices, the cantilever.

The name “Sunbound” is associated with the patina and its reflectivity. For some the bird form will suggest the bald eagle, while for others the piece suggests the characteristics of the golden eagle. To me, it didn’t really matter... both are magnificent.
