Blue Dusk

  1. pic of bird in bronze

Living at marsh edge in northeastern Illinois was a magic time for me. One of the first great wildlife visions I have retained is the settling of Great Blue Herons as they moved to roost at dusk. Sunset had just passed and these great forms glided silently, more blue and grey than seemed real.

This work is one which I wanted to seem as a monument, yet, available for a variety of display notions. To emphasize the monument aspect I chose the stone patina and the hard-edged abstraction of form. The depth of blue is enhanced to reflect the overpowering image from childhood.
